I created this alternative layout of the popular “Modern Maples” quilt pattern by Amanda Jennings (which is based on the traditional Maple block) by retaining the negative space and lack of sashing, but adding in several smaller leaves and colors to emphasize the movement of falling autumn leaves.
The quilt top is machine pieced, while all quilting was done by hand with cream purl cotton on the colorful leaves, and variegated purl cotton on the blank squares used to create a “ghosted” echo of the Maple motif. It is backed in flannel and bound by hand with a double found cotton voile.
