Artist Statement:
“I was handed this mask upon entering my doctor’s office in the days leading up to the covid-19 quarantine in early March of 2020. I had come down with what seemed like a bad flu and thought it best to try and get tested since I work in public arts programming. No tests were available to confirm a diagnosis one way or the other…months into the spread of the virus around the globe. I elected to self-quarantine just to be on the safe side and have since recovered (but have lost all current work with no guarantee there will be a job waiting for me on the other side of this). Every life has been put on the line in such a casually thoughtless manner, thanks in no small part to the ineptitude of this single selfish and blind blowhard who is more concerned about propping up his own worthless name with lies and delusions than in propping up his country and fellow humans.
I have stitched and taught handwork for over a decade and have wanted to make a contribution to the Tiny Pricks Project for some time. I believe in the importance of documenting each flippant fairy tale this man utters; the slow and mindful nature of hand embroidery provides a stark alternative to Twitter, providing a means of holding him accountable within the time-tested fabric of our collective consciousness.”

Edit: in case it wasn’t clear, this mask was well used and is now otherwise useless. It was given to me by a medical professional for *their* benefit. It is in no way an endorsement of a wasteful approach to their use. Quite the opposite, if you pause to read and think.
